This collection of essays proposes a critical journey in the Italian literary production of the last forty years. It deals both with authors already well-known in the 1960s (Calvino, Parise or Bassani, but also Fellini), writers that asserted themselves subsequently (Manganelli, Volponi or Del Giudice) and other personalities that remain largely to be discovered (Paolo Maurensig or Laura Pariani).
