This collective work addresses the debate on the forms of domination and relationships of submission that have sustained the empires of Antiquity. From a transcultural and comparative approach, it seeks to understand how the different legal, administrative, social and cultural frameworks on which the power of the empire rests are built. In addition, it undertakes the study of the relationships created under the imperial administrations and the structures that engender and reproduce the subjection of the defeated. But not only the means of direct coercion are the object of interest of this work, but also the understanding of the control mechanisms based on the ideological domain, the forms of hegemony and the strategies of soft power.
