Le site de Sallèles-d’Aude fait l’objet depuis 1976 d’une fouille extensive menée dans le cadre d’une recherche sur fa production d’amphores de fa Gaule romaine. Les prospections et fa fouille, toujours en cours, ont en effet révélé un complexe de potiers qui regroupe un quartier d’habitation et un quartier artisanal, auquel ce volume est consacré, offrant toutes les phases de la fabrication céramique sur une période allant du 1er au IIIe s. ap J.-C. Sont successivement étudiées la stratigraphie et l’architecture des ateliers, l’organisation de l’espace et les productions. L’étude de ces dernières permet d’avoir désormais une référence d’origine et de chronologie pour une large gamme de matériels céramiques destinés à la construction, la cuisine, l’alimentation et l’emballage des denrées commercialisées. Ce travail, capital pour la connaissance des ateliers de potiers et fa vie artisanale et économique du Midi, déborde largement ce cadre et s’adresse à l’ensemble des spécialistes du monde romain.
